“But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
Today is a bittersweet day for my family and me. Twenty-six years ago at a little after five o’clock in the morning, our four-year-old Jeffrey went home to be with the Lord Jesus. Jeff survived some marathon surgeries and far outlived the early projections of the medical team at Buffalo Children’s Hospital. We enjoyed four indescribable years with Jeff. In his brief stay on earth, I believe Jeffrey touched more lives than I ever will. We learned so many wonderful lessons from this boy who loved to make people laugh. The writer of the book of Hebrews tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. I do not know why Jeffrey was born with congenital heart disease. I do not know why his stay was so brief here on earth. I do not know why God did not heal him as we asked Him to do. By faith I do know that God makes no mistakes and that Jeffrey is rejoicing in God’s presence and purpose for his life. Someone asked me for my definition of faith. Simply stated, it is, “Faith is knowing my Father and relying fully upon Him. Therefore, I will believe when I cannot see, trust when I do not understand, and obey even when the situation doesn’t make sense to me.” With this brief statement I can tell you it is bitter in that we miss Jeffrey so much. However, it is sweet in knowing that he is with the Lord. God never makes a mistake. We will talk more about this faith tomorrow.
For today: Remember, without faith it is impossible to please the Lord.
