“And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that He did for Israel. And Joshua the servant of the LORD died…And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which He had done for Israel” (Judges 2:7, 8, 10).
I love being a grandparent. I speak often with other grandparents. I sometimes get to pray with grandparents. Often I ask, “Is there anything I can pray about that is on your heart?” Almost always the reply comes as the voice chokes and tears appear, “Pray for my grandchildren. I don’t even know if they’re saved or not. They professed Christ when they were little, but the way they live today, I don’t know, Dr. Mike, if they’re saved or not. I am so burdened for them.” The text for today reminds us of that very important truth. Every child and grandchild must make the decision to follow Christ. It is our responsibility to teach the next generation as best we can both by our life and our lips! But it is their responsibility to follow the Lord. It isn’t enough that Grandpa or Grandma loved the Lord.
For today: Pray for young people around you today. They face situations that you and I never faced. Instead of being critical, be concerned and prayerful. Live righteously and sweetly before them.
