“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will” (Proverbs 21:1).
Did you have a chance to read yesterday’s Dr. Mike’s Daily Prescription? If not, let me briefly catch you up-to-date. Troy and Louise live next door to belligerent, arrogant, and hard to be around neighbors. Their horrible actions seemed to stem from Troy’s friendly gesture of trying to witness to them and invite them to church. Rather than simply saying, “No thank you,” these neighbors turned hostile and even dangerous in their actions. Troy and Louise enlisted the help of their church family to be specifically praying for the neighbors. One of the dear prayer partners, an elderly man named Arnie, often prayed that the Lord, Who holds the king’s heart in His hands, would likewise turn the hearts of these neighbors as only He could do. Days turned into weeks, and nothing seemed to change next door. That is, until that terrible day in February. Troy returned to his home around 2 o’clock in the morning from his shift at work. To his horror he saw smoke billowing from his neighbors’ home. Dialing 9-1-1 on his cell phone to report the fire, Troy ran into the neighbors’ yard and broke the back window. Without even thinking twice about it, Troy climbed through the broken window and into the house, alerting the neighbors, and helping them to safety. Louise brought blankets to wrap around the shocked neighbors. Although the fire department was very quick in their response and very professional and fighting the fire, the next door neighbors’ house was heavily damaged. You may find it hard to believe what Troy and Louise did next. Come on back tomorrow, and I will conclude the story of the king’s heart and the next door neighbors!
For today: The events of your life may not be as dramatic as a house fire next door. However, God does want you and me to make wise use of the opportunities that come our way.
