“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will” (Proverbs 21:1).
If you have been reading Dr. Mike’s Daily Prescriptions the last few days, you will remember how the church of Troy and Louise prayed that the Lord would change the hearts of their belligerent, arrogant, and ungodly neighbors. I left you yesterday with Troy saving the lives of these neighbors who, in the middle of the night, were sound asleep as their house was on fire. These neighbors had no working smoke detectors, and if it had not been for Troy who came back home in the middle of the night from his work, they surely would have perished. Troy risked his own life by smashing out the window in the back of the neighbors’ home, enabling him to gain entrance. Through the smoke and flames Troy was able to awaken the occupants and lead them to safety. The fire had such a head start that by the time the fire department arrived, the house was nearly engulfed. Louise brought blankets to wrap around the shivering neighbors. Troy and Louise seized the opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ. Even though these neighbors at best had been miserable and at the worst actually broke the law, the Lord used this terrible situation to change their hearts. Troy and Louise invited them to come and stay with them for the next few days until they were able to secure temporary housing elsewhere. Troy led the way to buying clothes for the neighbors who came into their home dressed only in their pajamas. Louise organized a fund at the bank and solicited much in the way of funds for the family who had very inadequate fire insurance. The outcome was a very great change of heart for the next door neighbors. It was not long before they came with Troy and Louise to their church service. The hostility was gone. God brought a great change of heart to those neighbors. Whose heart needs changing in your personal life? Is it yours? Or is it the heart of another? Hopefully it will not take a situation like this to bring about that change.
For today: I want to keep my heart soft and tender so that the Lord can easily direct my steps. How about you?
