I’ve written several editions of “Karen’s Notes” from a particular Ladies’ Retreat. She apparently opened this first session asking the ladies to share several of God’s attributes. She wanted to help them refocus from the cares and concerns of back home to Who God is and how this knowledge of Him would profoundly affect their lives. She actually wanted to help the ladies grow in their reverence and fear of the Lord.
In her Bible, she has underlined and highlighted the following verses. “O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together. O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in Him. O fear the Lord, you His saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him. Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord” (Psalm 34:3, 8-9, 11).
Karen wrote: “In our finite minds we often try to put everything in a neat little box or on a list. God can’t be contained, nor would we want Him to be. He views our life from a much different perspective than we view it because He sees the whole picture and He is the LORD.”
Michael’s observation: It surely is easy to view things from my own flawed, sinful, limited perspective. A toddler’s heart is “broken” because he cannot have a cookie at 4:45 pm. Mommy was loving but firm in her “NO! Not now!” From his perspective, Mommy is mean. But from Mommy’s perspective, she is wise, kind, loving, and committed to seeking the welfare of that toddler. Take this little picture over into our lives and remember that our perspective might be very different from His perspective. You know Whose perspective is always right, right? This exercise of seeking to view things from His perspective because we love, respect, and fear Him is something we need to do every day.
