Volume 2 Number 43 “I Wonder What She Was Preparing?”

Karen and I experienced a good amount of sorrow as we walked through hard times in the lives of those we loved and served. Yet I have to tell you that we had many joys and moments of laughter together. I teased her often about her many speaking engagement invitations.
Let me explain. Before we were married, Karen told me, “Michael, you are the public speaker. I am not. I will do anything in the church. I would love to teach boys and girls. I will help with anything. But I cannot speak in public at ladies’ events.” I assured her that was fine. Fast forward twenty years and “Miss Never Speak in Public at Ladies’ Events” was speaking all over the surrounding areas!
I have no idea what was the event for which she was studying. In fact, I almost didn’t open it. But I’m glad that I did. In one of her notebooks, I discovered a folded sheet of yellow lined paper. There was lots of “doodling” with a few thoughts and some scratching on it. This was a rough draft of something she was preparing. But I think I’ve discovered enough of her train of thought to share with you for the next couple of Wednesdays. I know the text she was studying. I’ll share that and the three attitudes she seemed to have been working on.
“Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed” (Psalm 37:3).
Karen wrote: Trust v.3 (unwavering) Humanly we trust others with the knowledge that they may fail us. Attitude #1 I believe God can answer my problem. Isaiah 26:4 (“Trust ye in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.”)
Michael’s observation: Remember this is a rough draft, early preparation study. She was working on a ladies’ event where our (this is good for men and ladies) attitude must be one of trust. We have the confidence of knowing Him and totally relying upon Him. While her sentences may not have been complete on this little piece of paper, I’m glad I found it today. It’s been a good reminder for me. How about you?
