“Karen’s Notes!
Insights from a Glory-Bound Lady”

Selected Notes

Volume 2 Number 50 “The Theme of Wedding Gowns”
December 11, 2019

Twenty-seven years ago Karen was speaking to a group of ladies in a church in Western New York. I know this to be true because she wrote where the event took place and the year in which it was held. For someone who didn’t consider herself a speaker, this lady was speaking at ladies’ events all over New York State.

The evening theme was “Wedding Gowns,” and Karen’s assignment was to speak about ladies not only loving their husbands but also loving the Lord. She was to encourage them that the Lord wants their marriage to be fresh, beautiful and blessed by the Lord. He also wants to have a powerful and personal relationship with believers because we are the bride of Christ.

She indeed spoke of the marriage relationship. But she emphasized the relationship that the ladies must have with the Lord Jesus. These verses and a brief portion of her notes come from the third point in the session where she focuses upon Mary of Bethany who loved the Lord Jesus and was devoted to Him as His follower. Let me share the Scripture and then a couple of her notes.

“Then Jesus six days before the Passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been raised from the dead. There they made Him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with Him. Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment” (John 12:1-3).

Karen wrote: Mary showed her love for the Savior. She brought costly ointment and then wiped His feet with her hair. A woman’s hair was her glory (1 Corinthians 11). Do others know by our words and our actions that we love our Savior? Her sacrifice was so significant to the Lord that He said wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, this would be shared according to Matthew 26:13.

Michael’s observation: I distinctly remember Karen coming home later that evening and sharing with me how many of the ladies had brought their wedding gowns to be displayed. It was a great theme for ladies. It has a great message for both ladies and men still today. It seems fitting to me to use these notes with this theme today. Forty-eight years ago today, Karen and I were married. It just seemed like a good time to use this today. And yes, she was indeed beautiful in her wedding gown.
