Sometimes as I read through Karen’s Bible study journal, I can see where she would be speaking, how many times she would be speaking at the retreat, and what her assigned topics would be. Today’s notes are the exception. I clearly see that she was exploring and studying the topic of God’s holiness and how it affects us. But I don’t know where she used her study, if anywhere, other than in her own heart and life. I am blessed by holding her handwritten notes. Here are some of the notes she jotted to herself.
“Because it is written, be ye holy: for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16).
Karen wrote: “Holiness. The definition is ‘separation to God; conduct befitting those so separated’ (Vines Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words.’
Holiness will enable us to respond in a Christ-like manner in the time of temptation (from Satan) or the time of testing (from God). Temptation is the desire to do something that goes against God Word and what I know to be right. Testing is a character check where I can see if my reaction is in the flesh or is it acting in the Spirit?”
Michael’s observation: The Lord’s Word is not a suggestion, nor is it optional. As the family of the Lord, our Father greatly desires to help us conform to His likeness. No, we will never be deity. But as His children, He does want to help us to take on more of the family image. “Be holy, for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16). Why should I be holy? The profound answer is because He says so.
