Sometimes the guest speaker is given the full liberty to pray and speak on any topic that the Lord gives him or her. Other times the invitation is rather pointed and sometimes with very specific directions. I remember this one for my Karen. Please remember that Karen only accepted invitations to speak at ladies’ events.
We always prayed together about her invitation, her study and of course, her speaking engagement. Like I said, I do remember this one because she said, “I wonder what is going on at this particular church. They want me for a one-time ladies’ event to speak on the power of the Lord and how it applies in personal ways for women, AND I am to keep it brief!”
We did laugh a little and pray a lot. That night Karen took them to Psalm 33:6, 8. “By the Word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.” Let me share just a tiny portion of one of her paragraphs.
Karen wrote: We need to fear the LORD and actually stand in awe of Him. Why? Because of WHO He is! He is the great “I AM,” the self-existent One. He is the One Who stood at the graveside of Lazarus and proclaimed, “Lazarus! Come forth.” He is the One Who fed the multitudes with five loaves and two fish. Do you praise Him because of Who He is?
Michael’s Observation: I’m holding Karen’s personal notes for this event. For someone who didn’t think of herself as a ladies’ speaker, this little lady was busy speaking and, may I add, she had quite a good outline for her presentation. It was a burden on Karen’s heart to see the profound and growing lack of awe in the lives of believers. She longed for this in her personal life as well as in the lives of those she loved and cared about.
Oh, and by the way, when she came home that night we talked about how it went. She replied, “Really good, and you can believe it when I say, I kept it short.”
