Insights from a Glory-Bound Lady”
Selected Notes
Volume 3 Number 49 “The Sheer Miracle of Christmas!”
December 23, 2020
Here we are just two days before Christmas. I know that you are busy, so I will be brief today with “Karen’s Notes.” I’ve been speaking in the prayer meetings at the First Baptist Church of Elyria from the text of John 1:14. As I read back through Karen’s Bible study journals, I discovered that ten years ago I spoke on the same text at the same church (different message, not a repeat!) Karen invested some time and further thought to that verse. Let me share with you the verse and what she wrote.
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
Karen wrote:
1. It is miraculous. “The Word was made flesh” (John 1:14a). He was 100% God and 100% man. Word made flesh- miraculous!
2. It is meaningful. “And dwelt among us” (John 1:14b). He dwelled among us, this speaks of being close by (Hebrews 4:15-16).
3. It is mighty. “We beheld His glory” (John 1:14c). How great is His splendor.
4. It is marvelous. “Full of grace and truth” (John 1:14d). He was completely perfect in balance.
I stand in awe of Him.
Michael’s observation: While many commentators write pages of application to the incredible miracle of John 1:14, my Karen, in her typical “to-the-point” brevity concludes it incredibly well. “I stand in awe of Him!” So do I. While our Christmas plans may be very different this year, may we truly stand in awe of Him. From my heart to your home, Blessed Incarnation Day!
