Way back on March 24th, 2013, I preached a message from Matthew 21. Karen took notes on that message and wrote the outline in her Bible study journal. She then added several brief thoughts as to how this impacted her personal life. It is my joy to bring her notes to you today and pray that God’s Word and Karen’s Notes will be a blessing to you.
“And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, saying unto them, go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, the Lord has need of them, and immediately he will send them” (Matthew 21:1-2).
Karen wrote: There are five things in Matthew 21 that are important to Jesus (and to me too!)
1. God’s will (21:1a). There is no improvement upon the will of God.
2. God’s workers (21:b-4a). He commissioned them and they complied.
3. God’s Word (21:4b-5). His triumphal entry was the fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9.
4. God’s worthiness (21:6-11). Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the LORD! Hosanna in the highest” (26:9).
5. God’s work (21:12-16). The work of the Lord must be clean before Him (21:12); committed to prayer (21:13); Christ centered (21:14); and Children friendly (21:15).
The Lord Jesus was alert, focused and always about His Father’s business. He was never distracted from His mission.
Michael’s Observation: Yes, she heavily underlined the words always and never. I often heard her caution others to use the words “always” and “never” sparingly and with great caution. Here Karen could freely and with great confidence use these words. I am challenged to remember that because I belong to the Lord, my mission is to glorify Him (1 Corinthians 10:31) and to walk worthy of the position of being a follower of the Lord (Ephesians 4:1). The things that are important to the Lord Jesus must be important to me as well.
