Karen loved the change of seasons, and the changes that take place from winter to spring were her absolute favorite of the year. She enjoyed everything about it. The cold and snowy weather giving way to warmer days probably was at the top of the list. She loved the spring flowers, the birds building their nests, longer daylight times and slow walks together.
It’s been four years now since I held Karen’s hand. I miss her terribly; however, friends, knowing WHERE she is, HOW she is and WITH WHOM she is, truly comforts and helps me.
I ran across this in her Bible study note that she wanted to share with her family as a reminder. I’m happy to share these verses and what she wrote with you as well.
“Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). She circled the word “content.”
Karen wrote: “He has promised never to leave me nor forsake me. It is my responsibility to walk with Him and give Him first place in all areas of my life. Colossians 2:6, 7 says, ‘As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him: rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.’
This is a choice I made as a young girl believing that Jesus is the perfect Son of God and was sent by His Father from Heaven to earth as the perfect sacrifice for my sin. According to 1 Corinthians 15:3,4 He died and rose again. First place in all areas–Christ’s preeminence (Colossians 1:16). He has promised never to leave me nor forsake me.”
Michael’s observation: Karen’s cancer was an extremely difficult season. She wrote very little toward the end of her cancer journey. But this was very important to her. It was much on her heart and mind. I don’t know what kind of season of life you are in right now. However, I can tell you that if you know Christ as your Savior and if you are walking with Him, even in the most difficult of seasons, knowing that He will never leave us nor forsake us makes all the difference in the world. He works wonders. Really, He does. He is worthy of “first place in all areas– Christ’s preeminence.”
