“Karen’s Notes!
Insights from a Glory-Bound Lady”
Selected Notes
Volume 4 Number 25 “Too Busy to be Blessed”

I came across a set of Karen’s handwritten notes for a ladies’ retreat held many years ago. She was to speak to a group of ladies who were no doubt very busy. I’m not sure just who assigned her the topic. However! It was to be given to folks who were juggling a very busy schedule. Does that sound like you? I thought so.
Let me share the Scripture passage she developed in the first session. It comes from Luke 10:38-42. There the Bible says, “And it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me. And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one this is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Karen wrote: Martha, Mary’s sister, was distracted with what was a good thing. However, Mary had chosen the excellent by spending quality time with Jesus. Are we ever guilty of this? We have hectic schedules. Our days are busy starting early in the mornings and continuing sometimes until late in the evening. We have so many situations as we care for those in need. In addition, we have ministry opportunities and social events. On and on it goes. All of these are good. But we must be watchful. We can be SO BUSY that we are neglecting God’s best. Mary sat at His feet. She listened to His Word.
Michael’s observation: I know that many who are reading Karen’s Notes today are busy with many responsibilities and opportunities. May the Lord help us never to become so busy that we don’t have time to invest by spending it at the feet of the Lord Jesus as we read His Word, pray, worship, and praise Him. I am constantly challenged with “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
