Volume 4 Number 31 “Karen’s Prayer Lists”
August 4, 2021
I honestly did not think that there would be any more surprises for me. Karen has been Home with the Lord for over four years now. I thought I had sifted through all of her conference notes, her personal Bible study notes, and the brief words in the margin of her Bible. Then today I discovered something that caused me to stop and consider that I was holding some extremely precious.
Inside one of the pockets of the covering of her Bible was something I never knew existed. In her handwriting were pages of Karen’s personal prayer lists. The needs of family, friends, churches, ministries, cancer patients, expectant moms, parents with wayward children, on and on the lists go.
Obviously, I cannot share specifics. However! Here is something that I can share. Along with the lists of prayer needs, Karen wrote two references. Let me share these with you and then a couple of things she wrote about this verse.
“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD” (Psalm 27:14). “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him: fret not thyself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass” (Psalm 37:7).
Karen wrote: Waiting is an expectation of God’s provision. It is an expression of faith.
1. The command to wait -“Wait on the LORD” (Psalm 27:14a).
2. The courage to wait – “Be of good courage” (Psalm 27:14b).
3. The context of waiting – “Fret not” (Psalm 37:9b). So good when facing seemingly unfair situations.
4. The consequences of waiting – “Rest in the LORD” (Psalm 37:9a).
Michael’s observation: There is nothing more personal and precious to me than to be holding the amazing prayer lists of my dear Karen. Oh, how she prayed for individuals and ministries. Many of these prayer requests cover a duration of many, many years. I find it so rich to see that she prayed on for many months without a special answer, and in one of those periods she rested and learned to fret not as she waited. These are great reminders for each of us.
