Karen’s Notes!
“Insights from a Glory-Bound Lady”
Selected Notes
Volume 4 Number 35 “A Personal Note Shared with Many” Part One
September 1st, 2021
Please believe me these are notes not idols. I am very aware of 1 John 5:21, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” An idol is anything that is treasured and valued as much or more than the Lord.
Karen’s ladies’ conference teaching notes and her Bible study journals are not idols. They mean a lot to me because of my love for her as well as the rich teaching and encouragement that many receive from them being shared. So please don’t think that I am idolizing these. I’m just glad her notes can be a help and encouragement. I regularly receive amazing stories from people around the world who tell me that they’ve smiled at her brevity (no one ever says that about me!) and how her notes have come at just the right time to encourage them.
Ten years ago, Karen underlined the following verse and then wrote some very personal notes to herself. Having been her husband for over forty-five years, I know her well enough to have the assurance that this is all right to share with you.
This is the verse she underlined: “But God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). (The word “commended” means “to show, prove, establish or exhibit.” Karen made some rich observations about how the Lord commended His love to her and how she needed to show love to her family and those around her.
Karen wrote: (I am slightly editing for the sake of our readers.) “By touches and words that demonstrate my love and by actions of thoughtfulness I want to make memories and share moments that will remind others of my love. Genuine Biblical love grows and it also shows.”
Michael’s observations: I will continue this next week as she turned to Ephesians 4:32 and wrote some very special things at this text. Her notes are very brief but very pointed. Genuine Biblical love will grow. This will be demonstrated in actions that truly communicate to others that they are valued and cherished. Think about this question. In my own personal life, is the love that the Lord demonstrated to me being demonstrated by word and action to others?
