“Karen’s Notes!
Insights from a Glory-Bound Lady”
Selected Notes
Volume 4 Number 49, “Asking God to Put a Song in Your Heart!”
December 8, 2021
Karen always kept all her Bible study journals and conference worksheet notes in one place. I honestly thought I had read (many times) through all of them. As I was going through the file for something totally unrelated, lo and behold! There was a set of conference notes entitled “Peace in Troubled Times!” which took the ladies who attended the retreat to Psalm 105. Peace comes when we actively worship the Lord and she shared five things with the ladies.
Last week I shared her first point, “Give thanks” (105:1). Come with me now as we think about the second part of actively worshiping the Lord.
Karen wrote: 2. Sing to the Lord. “Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works!” (Psalm 105:1).
The idea of this Hebrew word for “sing” is not only to sing, but “to sing as a strolling minstrel, to celebrate.” We truly need to ask the Lord to put a song in our hearts as we stroll along and walk through our days. Once He puts a song in your heart, sing it!
The Bible tells us in Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord.”
One of my favorites is “Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!” I love to sing songs that remind me of Who God is and what He wants to do in my life!
Michael’s observation. I know that Karen practiced what she shared with the ladies. It is good not only for the ladies who attended her conferences. It is good for men as well. So brothers and sisters, we need to actively worship the Lord if we are ever going to have peace in troubled times. What will you be singing to the Lord today?
