Volume 4 Number 9 “Four Daily Blessings”
I need these every day!

Open before me on my writing desk is a Bible study journal that Karen was writing eight years ago. She had been studying through the life of Joshua and was especially blessed with the faithfulness of this young man.
The nation of Israel was in a crisis. A significant number of the people had sinned grievously against the Lord. Now Moses and Joshua earnestly sought the Lord as to what would become of the people in the wilderness. After leaving the tent of the meeting Moses returned to the camp to address the people. However, it is said of Joshua, “But his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle” (Exodus 33:11). He waited. He stayed. He didn’t depart. Those must have been incredibly difficult moments for Joshua. I have found that in the most intense moments comes the potential for some of the most incredible blessings.
“Joshua, a young man, departed not.” That brief statement apparently both blessed and challenged her. Though young, Joshua played a key role in that season of crisis. He learned the challenges of leadership through the moments of waiting upon God and earnestly seeking Him.
Karen realized that she was just one person. However, as she saw the changes that were coming to our culture and society, she knew that she needed to remain faithful just like Joshua. These are the four things that she committed to doing daily.
Karen wrote: Remember the W.O.R.D.
W stands for waiting on the Lord. “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
O stands for obeying the Lord. “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).
R stands for respecting the Lord. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (Psalm 111:10).
D stands for depending on the Lord. “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God” (Psalm 20:7).
Michael’s observation. This little word association that Karen wrote is brief and to the point. However! I just can’t help but think that in its simplicity there are great Biblical imperatives for each of us. These are four daily blessings that with the Lord’s help each of us can know and experience. Remember the W.O.R.D!
