Volume 5 Number 40 “Snuggling as We Watched the Sunset!”
October 5th, 2022
As a child I remember hearing my grandparents speak about how fast time was flying by. To be honest with you, it didn’t feel so fast to me at all. However! Now that I am the grandpa, all I can say is, “I can’t believe we are in October already!” I pray that the Lord will help each of us who know Him not to get so very busy that we somehow lose our focus on Him and the joy that comes from being alert to Him throughout the day.
Let me reminiscence just a little. One of Karen’s favorite places for us to visit was the Miller Road Park in Lorain, Ohio. This is a beautiful park that overlooks Lake Erie. We loved to stand on the pier, talk with those who were fishing, and then sit together and watch the sunset over the Great Lake.
One night as we watched the sun setting, the skies blazed in amazing colors of reds and yellows. It was stunning. I remember that as we snuggled and watched the western skies, she whispered to me, “He simply spoke, and it happened. Think of it, Honey. He simply spoke.”
Karen never lost the sense of awe in thinking about our Lord’s awesome authority and ability demonstrated by His speaking. Let me share the verse from her Bible study journal that she later would use in a ladies’ conference, and then I’ll share with you what she wrote.
“For with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37).
Karen wrote: “There is power in the spoken word of the Lord. God is omnipotent! He has all power over all things. Let’s look at a few examples from the Bible that show the power exhibited in His spoken word alone.
1. Genesis 1:1-27 His creation and it was so.
2. Mark 4:36-29 He stilled the tempest.
3. John 11:43-44 He raised Lazarus from the dead.
4. Matthew 21:19 He blighted the fig tree.
5. Matthew 9:1-7 He forgave sins.”
Michael’s observation: You can never think too highly of the Lord. “He simply spoke and it happened. He simply spoke!” I want to be in His Word and listening to His voice speak to me. How about you?
