The last couple of weeks I’ve shared with you some brief excerpts from a ladies’ conference in which Karen spoke. This particular retreat was a big assignment with three major seminars in two days. The theme was “Peace in Troubled Times!”
Karen’s challenge to herself as well as to the ladies in attendance was to trust the Lord in a deeper, more complete way. One of the Scripture passages she used was “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusts in Thee. Trust ye in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength” (Isaiah 26:3-4).
To help develop a deeper trust in the Lord, she took them to Deuteronomy 10 and brought out several of the word pictures the Lord gave to Moses to help the second generation of the children of Israel to trust Him. The first word picture involved divine ownership.
Let me share the second word picture as well as the Scripture verse Karen used. This is just a very brief portion of the conference notes.
Word picture # 2- Think of His Divine Favor. “Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and He chose their seed after them, even you above all people as it is this day” (Deuteronomy 10:15).
Karen wrote: The nation of Israel was established through Abraham as chosen by God. Think of His favor upon His people. Now think of this. Think of His favor in the lives of His people today. If you know Christ as your Savior, you can speak of His favor and say, “I too, am chosen by God. He saw me in eternity past, chose me, and has a plan for my life that is good for me and will glorify Him.”
Ephesians 1:3-6 states, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Him, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the Beloved.” What joy to know that we are accepted in the Beloved. What an amazing blessing based on His gracious favor.
Michael’s observation: What an amazing privilege you and I have in Christ. We are the people who are graciously favored and accepted in His Beloved. When we really begin to grasp our glorious privilege, it will truly help us to trust Him fully.
