Never forget this. You can always count on the Lord keeping His promise.
Typically, I take “Karen’s Notes” from her Bible Study journal or her conference teaching notes. These are notebooks containing her personal devotional notes as well as the notes she used in ladies’ conferences. Many of these notes are her actual handwritten sketches of studies, outlines, and devotionals.
As I shared last week, so today also is somewhat different. Karen kept small notebooks to take notes whenever she accompanied me as I preached. Recently I discovered some of her notes at Christmastime. Folks from the Abbe Road Baptist Church of Elyria, Ohio, these are some of the notes from the evening message I preached on December 16th, 2012. Let me share the text and just a very few of the many notes she wrote.
“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:8-11).
I am not sharing my outline, but here is what Karen wrote to herself in the personal application at the close of the message. Here are her actual words that she wrote to herself and even the underline.
Karen wrote: “The Promise is Kept (Luke 2:8-11). The promise kept was announced to the shepherds.
Remember- things are not always as they appear.
– God can be trusted to keep His promises.
– God works in mysterious ways to accomplish His purpose.
– There is NOTHING that is too hard for God! Luke 1:37”
She underlined the words Remember and NOTHING. These are so good for us.
As 2023 comes to a close and 2024 approaches, take this with you. God keeps His promises. Isn’t it amazing that the promise came to the shepherds? Shepherds! I remember speaking about this, but as I concluded, this is what Karen wrote as a personal application. The coming of the Savior is the grand promise kept, and news of this came to the shepherds.
I am rejoicing in this news. How about you?
