While there are many blessings and wonderful things in life, there are also many challenges and difficulties as well. Perhaps you are going through some very difficult days right now. I am excited to share some thoughts directly from a two-day retreat that Karen taught. I have the great blessing of seeing the typed notes as well as my Karen’s handwritten notes. Thanks for stopping by today, and may the Lord help you in special ways in whatever kind of situation you face today.
Here are two Scripture passages that Karen used in this part of one of her seminars:
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusts in Thee. Trust ye in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength” (Isaiah 26:3-4).
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also you are called in one body; and be ye thankful” (Colossians 3:15).
A tiny sketch from Karen’s Notes: Think of it. We trust our doctor’s education and training. We trust our airline pilot’s abilities. We trust our investment counselors and their insights. We trust our car mechanics to understand how to repair our vehicles. These individuals and every other person as well can disappoint us and are capable of human error. That’s why it is so important for us to trust in the Lord.
We really can trust the Lord. I am speaking of complete confidence. Moses, by faith, trusted God to lead, protect, and provide for the people during those forty years of wandering. Now it is time to enter the promised land with the second generation that remained. Moses focused on God as he shared with them truths of Deuteronomy chapter ten. In verses 14 and 20 Moses taught them to trust the Lord. He said, ‘Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD’s thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is. Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; Him shalt thou serve, and to Him shalt thou cleave…” This means to give Him the rightful place in my life!
I want to be thinking of this today: Isn’t the challenge powerful that Moses gave to the people? They were to view Him as the owner of all (10:14), and therefore, He was to be feared, served, and the One to Whom they must cleave. The idea of “cleaving” is “clinging to, sticking to, following closely or being joined together.” The closer we walk with the Lord, the greater will be our complete confidence in Him.
In this section of the workshop as she spoke about trusting the Lord, she developed a beautiful word picture to help the ladies to have complete confidence in the Lord. I’ll share more about this word picture next time. Men, this is good for us as well.
