A quick welcome from Michael: I don’t know about you, but I am a list-maker. I write or text lists to myself. I very seldom shop anymore, but when I do have reason to stop at the store, I make a little list of the things I want to pick up. At my age, the challenge is remembering to bring the list with me! Am I the only one that makes the list and accidentally leaves it home?
Today, I am smiling as I look back at some notes that Karen wrote out in a list fashion. I am not sure where she used this list or how often. Some of you that faithfully read “Karen’s Notes” remember her speaking at ladies’ events at your church. Maybe you will remember this list.
In just a moment I will share what she wrote about the subject of “No Regrets.” It is true that I have never met anyone who has lived so well that he or she doesn’t have a regret or two or more or perhaps many more along the way. Every one of us easily sins; every one of us easily makes choices with poor judgment at times. Every one of us easily makes mistakes along the way.
On the other hand, there is such a blessing that comes when we come through a particular experience and look back with no regrets. I found something I want to share with you from one of Karen’s ladies’ Bible conference notes from which she spoke. At Proverbs 22:1, she shared a little article “Ten Things You Will Never Regret.” She didn’t know who wrote this, but it meant a lot to her. I am happy to share it with you today.
“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches and loving favor rather than silver and gold” (Proverbs 22:1).
Karen wrote: “Ten Things You Will Never Regret”
1. You will never regret showing kindness to an older person.
2. You will never regret offering an apology that will save a friendship.
3. You will never regret destroying a letter written in anger.
4. You will never regret helping a boy or girl find the right direction for life.
5. You will never regret taking time to show consideration to parents and friends, brothers and sisters.
6. You will never regret refraining from gossip when others around you delight in it.
7. You will never regret stopping a rumor that might destroy a good reputation.
8. You will never regret refusing to do something wrong even though others around you are doing it.
9. You will never regret living according to Biblical convictions.
10. You will never regret accepting the Word of God on any question or command.
Here’s what I’m thinking: While neither Karen nor I know the identity of who authored this little article, it so blessed Karen’s life that she copied it and posted it alongside Proverbs 22:1. We who know the Lord as our Savior want to live in such a way as to please Him. Look back over the list and smile at the many times and many ways you pleased Him and now you have no regrets in that area. Use the list as a reminder for the future. Enjoy belonging to Him and following His plan for your life.
