“Karen’s Notes!
Insights from a Glory-Bound Lady”

Selected Notes
Volume 8 Number 5, “Willing to Stand Alone Sometimes!” (Part Two)

I shared a little portion of one of the session notes from which Karen spoke at a ladies’ retreat. For three sessions she spoke, challenged, and encouraged the ladies to have the right perspective on Who the Lord is, who we are, and how to view our day. From 1 Kings 17:1, last week I shared how Karen used Elijah’s trust in the living LORD God to confront wicked King Ahab. Now today, we come to the great assembly on Mt. Carmel as found in 1 Kings 18.

There stood that day the prophets of Baal, the wicked King Ahab, and the gathered citizens of the land. It was like they were all standing in one corner of the ring. There, humanly speaking, by himself stood Elijah. But you know, he was not alone. The true and living God stood right beside him. Let me share the Scripture Karen used to begin the session and then I will share her outline with you!

“Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that Thou art God in Israel, and that I am Thy servant, and that I have done all these things at Thy word” (1 Kings 18:36). Elijah views himself as the servant and the LORD as being God.

Karen wrote: Be assured that God will never ask you to do something without enabling you to do it. He will never set you up for failure. From 1 Kings, watch what He did in the life of Elijah.

A. Elijah was readied by God (17:2-26). He used the Brook Cherith and the widow for food, water, and rest.
B. Elijah rebuked the wicked king (18:17-18).
C. Elijah rallied the people (18:19-20).
D. Elijah recited the rules (18:23-24).
E. Elijah relied on God (18:25-37).

This is only one of many examples from the Bible that show us God’s pattern of victorious living.

Michael’s observation: In case you are wondering from last week, no, I didn’t use her outline when I was recently preaching on Elijah. But I will say this, she had a good outline, didn’t she? But it goes beyond the outline. Surely the principles she shared with the ladies those many years ago are very good for each of us. We need to view each day as God’s adventure for us. He might even call on us from a human perspective to stand alone for Him. Thankfully, we are never actually alone. He always is with us.
