I hope that you will enjoy looking back into something I shared a couple of years ago from “Karen’s Notes.”

There’s lots I’ve never shared with you. As I search through the little notes she wrote to herself, I catch myself thinking, “No, this one is too personal.” I then move on. Someday when I am Home with the Lord, our children will discover some of the personal study and devotional notes that their mom and dad wrote that are of a private and personal nature. I found several such notes just recently that Karen wrote and knew that I had to move on. Then I would find something that catches my eye, and I say to myself, “Yep! I know her well enough to know that she wouldn’t mind me sharing this.” Such is the case today.

Karen was reading Psalm 28. Apparently she invested a little quiet time thinking it through. I can tell you that as a mother with a house full of children and as a busy pastor’s wife, I don’t know how she found any quiet time. But in one of those moments she really focused on Psalm 28:7. Let me share it with you, and then I’ll share several notes that she wrote to herself.

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoices and with my song will I praise Him.”

Karen wrote: My heart trusted. I am helped. Yes, I see that God is my helper. This verse has trusted before helped. I must trust the Lord first and then I am helped.

Trust: Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart”

Help: Proverbs 3:6 “He will direct thy paths”

Trust: Psalm 37:5a, “Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him”

Help: Psalm 37b, “He shall bring it to pass”

You and I share this situation together: This is just about half of her notes. I’ll share the rest of the portion next week. I think of the situations through which many of you are traveling. Here is something that you and I share alike. If we know Christ as our own Savior, our Heavenly Father wants to help us. He wants us to trust Him.

What a precious and pointed reminder for me today. Trust and watch for how He helps. I want to be able to say with King David, “I trusted in Him and am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoices and with my song will I praise Him.”
