On this very first day of May, welcome to “Karen’s Notes!” Every Wednesday for the last seven years you have allowed me the honor and privilege of opening one of Karen’s many notebooks and sharing just a little blurb with you. I am sharing #314 with you today.
One of Karen’s Notebooks. She always took notes on the sermons as I was preaching. She would sometimes write an additional note or two to herself in addition to the outline and application. For the next several weeks, come with me to a message I preached on November 7, 2010. It’s entitled “As For Me!”
The outline has four parts as we trace King David’s powerful and profound statement of “As For Me!” This is King David’s unwavering stand. For the next four weeks, think of the phrase “As for me!”
Week #1 –King David’s “As For Me” of adoration. Despite the wickedness that is abounding, I will still worship and love the Lord.
“For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, nor shall evil dwell with You. The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity. You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple” (Psalm 5:4-7).
This surely applies to us, doesn’t it? I will be honest with you, friend. Like you, I am saddened to see how wickedness seems to be exploding all around us. I am appalled at the things that were once unthinkable are today openly celebrated. I am sickened by much going on in our culture. However, I am also excited. King David was so correct in his thinking. Despite the abundance of wickedness, David stood his ground and triumphantly exclaimed, “As for me!” He was going to worship. He was going to rejoice in God’s mercy. He was going to fear the Lord and respect His ways.
That’s it, friends. That’s it. No matter what others around do, no matter how others act, no matter how vile and wicked this culture becomes, you and I need the “As for me” attitude of adoring the Lord.
