You have afforded me the privilege of opening one of Karen’s notebooks and sharing a little glimpse of what was important to her at that moment. This comes from a little notebook that Karen kept in her Bible cover in which she kept notes on the messages I was preaching. This message took place on November 11, 2010, when she accompanied me back to New York state. The focus is on the “As For Me” statements of courage and conviction as spoken by King David. We are taking the first four weeks of May to briefly think of these grand statements. Come with me to # 317 of “Karen’s Notes.”
Week # 1- King’s David “As For Me” of adoration. Despite the wickedness that is abounding, I will still worship and love the Lord.
Week # 2- King David’s “As For Me” of affection. Despite lawlessness and schemes of dishonest people, I will walk in integrity because I am in love with the Lord.
Week # 3 King David’s “As For Me” of appreciation. Despite the fact that even when his good friends turned against him and let him down, he appreciated the fact that God is always faithful.
Today, Week # 4- King David’s “As For Me” of anticipation. Despite the fact that many seem only to be living for the here and now, I have a wonderful sense of anticipation in view of eternity. Let me share the verse and then what Karen wrote in her notebook.
“Arise, O LORD, Confront him, cast him down; deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword, With Your hand from men, O LORD, from men of the world who have their portion in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children and leave the rest of their possession for the babes. As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness” (Psalm 17:13-15).
King David is saying, Lord, there are so many all around me who are living for wealth, pleasure, and riches here and now. They are not satisfied with adequate food, shelter, and clothing. They want treasure, wealth, and glory in abundance. They work all their lives with the goal of getting more and more and more. And then they die and leave it all to their children, having lived all their lives ignoring eternity.
The King said, despite how others are living, I appreciate what God has given to me here and now, but the best is yet to be. “As for me” I will see Your face in righteousness.
Let me conclude with this thought. Friends, if you know Christ as your Savior, indeed the best is yet to be. Let’s come back to this next week.
