“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of His roots; And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD” (Isaiah 11:1-2).
Leonard was proud of his Jewish heritage even though he didn’t often visit the synagogue. The Lord seemed to be working in his life though, and wouldn’t you know it, the new neighbors were not only friendly and cared about him, they were believers. Ken and Marsha and their children were referred to by Leonard as “those people.” One day Ken and Marsha were having devotions out on the patio. They spotted Leonard next door and invited him over for coffee. “What are you reading?” Leonard asked. “We are reading about the coming of the Lord. Listen to this,” and they read Isaiah 11:1-2. Before they read the next verse, he interrupted, “I’m Jewish and I’m proud of it, and I don’t believe your New Testament.” Ken looked at Marsha and smiled. A huge smile came to her face as well. “Leonard,” Marsha said, “we’re reading what your Prophet Isaiah said of the coming Christ.” It was a powerful conversation with a Jewish man who now was really open to hearing about Messiah.
For today: My heart is full as I think of how awesome our Savior is. Let’s be praising Him today!
