“Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers” (Proverbs 17:6).
You chuckled yesterday about the tale of the difference between children and grandchildren. Remember my youngest daughter asking to be taken along with her brother and my two grandchildren back to McDonalds for lunch on the second day in a row? I explained to her that we were not going to McDonalds two days in a row. We would go somewhere else for lunch while her uncle and aunt were working. Sure enough, my beautiful little granddaughter climbed on my lap and charmed me into giving up and taking everyone back to the same McDonalds for burgers and fries as we watched the trains going by. Later that day we were having devotions together. After reading the Bible, we took prayer requests and praises. My little granddaughter (about the same age as my little daughter) said, “I praise the Lord that Grandpa loves me and couldn’t resist me when I asked. She then looked at my daughter Rachel and said, ‘I told you, Rachel, that Grandpa would listen to me!’” Grandma and I had quite a chuckle, and it has been a family joke over the years amongst my older grandchildren and me. They truly are a crown. Let me ask, if you are a grandparent, how do your grandchildren know that you love them and care about them, especially spiritually?
For today: May our lives truly count for the Lord and bless the lives of our families.
