“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
He resisted.
He argued.
He got huffy.
But bless his heart, he could not escape the gospel fact that we are sinners (Romans 3:23). This sin separates us from God, and we are under His judgment (Romans 6:23a). We had a debt we could never pay so the Lord Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood to pay a debt He didn’t owe (2 Corinthians 5: 21). Three days later, Christ arose in glorious victory (Acts 2:23-24). Forgiveness of sin based solely on our trust in Christ alone to be our precious Savior Redeemer is His incredible gift (Romans 6:23b). All of this is on the basis of His grace, not our good works, nor our good intentions, not our good efforts (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Sadly, he didn’t want to hear the gospel. He wanted me to hear the proud words of self-effort in his religious system to make it to Heaven. I hope he has a change of heart before it is too late. I hope that you have believed the good news (gospel) of our gracious Lord and believed it. If you have, aren’t you glad and rejoicing in His grace? Won’t you be catching yourself singing “Amazing Grace” today?
