“Incline my heart unto Thy Testimonies, and not to covetousness” (Psalm 119:36).
Wesley hadn’t been paying too much attention to the youth leader’s teaching until he heard the word “covetousness.” The youth leader continued saying, “Many in the youth group may not be familiar with this word. The Hebrew word is betsa (BEH-tsah). It literally means ‘gains or profits made by violence’ which makes it so strong.”
Wesley felt like the youth leader was talking to him personally. He started to squirm just a little. This was only the third time he had attended youth group in the small town out west. Two other guys in his school had been talking to him about stealing from old Mrs. Cranshaw. The plan was to pretend to be selling things for school. She always contributed. After she came to the door, one of the guys would grab her wallet, and the three would scatter. Suddenly the impact of the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit gripped his heart in conviction. He had to speak to the leader after youth group. He had to. More about this tomorrow.
For today: How is your heart? Is it inclined toward the Word of God, His Testimonies?
