“Incline my heart unto Thy Testimonies, and not to covetousness” (Psalm 119:36).
Wesley was at a turning point in his life. Part of him was very interested in knowing more about the Lord and His Word. The other part of him was still heavily involved in the world. His friends at youth group reached out to him and were so different. Opposite of these were several of his friends at school who were pulling at him to go the other way. They had even devised a plan to grab old Mrs. Cranshaw’s purse and make some quick money. How startled he was at youth group this week! When the leader spoke about the word “covetousness” and pointed out that it had to do with gaining profits through violence, he came under deep conviction.
After youth group he and the youth leader came to the youth pastor’s office, and Wesley confessed the entire plot against the elderly lady in town. Weeping, he told the youth pastor, “I have never felt so ashamed and sorry for even thinking about this. I need to know the Lord as my Savior.” That night he trusted Christ. The next night he and the youth pastor went to a meeting with the other two young men. Wesley had told them he wanted to meet them at McDonalds. It was an interesting meeting. I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow.
For today: I want to be sensitive to God’s Word. How about you?
