“Carlos, let me ask you a question,” his co-worker Perry said. “Every day you arrive at work with a friendly smile. You don’t complain. You don’t swear. You aren’t bitter even though I know you are going through a really hard time in your life. How do you do it?”
Carlos didn’t take very long to think about the question. “Perry, it is not that I am so good. It is that something is awaiting me every day. As soon as I shut off the alarm clock, I know that God’s compassions will not fail. His mercies are new every morning. His faithfulness to me will be great. He’s enough. He’s sufficient for whatever I face each day,” Carlos said with conviction. He then burst out laughing and slapped Perry’s shoulder as he said, “That’s what helps me face someone with a face like yours every morning!”
With that the two men laughed and walked in to work. Throughout the day Perry thought about what Carlos had told him. How about you? Do you know the Lord and His compassions which are new every morning?
Here are the verses Carlos quoted: “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23). How did you start your day this morning?
