“But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady unto the going down of the sun” (Exodus 17:12).
You remember the incident, don’t you? The children of Israel were fighting against the soldiers of Amalek. As long as Moses’ hands were held high, the children of Israel succeeded. Whenever they were too heavy to hold up, Amalek advanced. I have never gotten over the ministry of Aaron and Hur. They came to Moses’ side and held up his hands and arms. This resulted in a great benefit to the entire camp of Israel. While Aaron and Hur were not down on the battlefield, they were very instrumental in bringing about the success of Israel. I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to think back and thank the Lord for the many who functioned as Aarons and Hurs for me. In the many years that I have functioned as a servant of the Lord, there are those who not only earnestly and fervently prayed for me, they also let me know of their prayers, and they were a consistent encouragement to me. You likewise have a great opportunity of being like an Aaron and Hur to your pastor. You will not falsely flatter him. But there are plenty of discouragements in the ministry. Today is Tuesday. Probably your pastor took yesterday off and is now back in the office. I don’t suggest you call him on the phone. However, if you were to drop him a note in the mail or send him an email and thank him for his ministry, it would be a tremendous blessing. You can hold up the hands of your pastor and therefore be a blessing to the entire congregation.
For today: When was the last time you encouraged your pastor? I hope you are not the reason that your pastor is discouraged in the first place!
