“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
Be patient. This story will end well. But let me back up by about forty-five minutes. With screams of terror, Sammy and Sally came running to their mom with every ounce of fear and terror seven-year-old twins could muster. They had been playing when they heard a noise. Neither could tell for sure where it was coming from or exactly what it was. Finally, they had followed the noise to the curb in front of their house. From a rather large curbside drain they could hear the frantic cries of a young cat that had fallen into it and was out of reach.
Mom was sought to help with the crisis. She could barely see the young cat but was nowhere near being able to reach it. Calling the animal control number on the website of their city, a very kindhearted lady said a vehicle would be dispatched very soon. Sure enough, within fifteen minutes two officers arrived and about a half hour later, the young cat was no longer trapped in the drain.
I told you the story would end well. But that’s not the best part. Later than night, as Mom and Dad were having Bible and prayer time with the twins, it provided them the perfect opportunity to show how the Lord Jesus was the One Who would save us from being entrapped by our sins. What a great object lesson that night.
For today: How well acquainted are you with God’s Word? The wonderful truth of the Word of God frees us from the captivity and bondage of sin, despair, and discouragement. Without the Word of God, we’d be in a much worse place than the fallen cat trapped in the drain that day!
