I have deliberately given you verse four before I shared verse one.
“The LORD is in His holy temple, the LORD’S throne is in Heaven…” (Psalm 11:4). “In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, flee as a bird to your mountain?” (Psalm 11:1).
This is not the typical way of presenting the Scripture, but it is a great way to present it to folks who are going through a time of confusion, hardship, and uncertainty.
That’s just exactly what it was like for Marsha and her family. Back when we were restricted because of the pandemic continuing, Marsha learned that the restaurant in which she worked was closing and would not be reopening. Her job was gone. As a single mom, she truly needed the income. She and her mom lived together and needed combined incomes to make ends meet for them and Marsha’s young daughter. Hot tears flowed down her cheeks as she told her mom the news she’d learned that morning. Together they cried and embraced.
Marsha’s mom did a wonderful thing next. Holding her adult daughter close to herself, she whispered, “It wasn’t long ago that I read in Psalm 11 about the Lord being upon His Heavenly throne in His holy temple. He is in control. He’s going to lead us and provide for us. We can trust Him. It would be nice if we could just fly away to some mountain where there would be no problems. But, Honey, we’ve got something better than that. He is the LORD. He is our LORD. We are His people. Now it is time for us to see what He has planned and trust Him.”
For today: It wouldn’t be long before the Lord provided another place of employment where He would bless Marsha greatly. The day came when she told her mom, “You were right. Good thing I wasn’t a little bird that flew away to her mountain. I’m so glad that the Lord is in control.”
