“Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying, ‘I am the Light of the World: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life’” (John 8:12).
Many years ago I was camp pastor for the week at Bethany Baptist Camp in Western New York. I have spoken there many, many times. It is a beautiful camp set in the hills and woods not too far from Chautauqua Lake as well as Lake Erie. It was time for me to head down to supper with the rest of the campers. I came from my speaker’s cabin far up the trail and in the woods. I was nearly at the dining room when I remembered that I hadn’t brought my flashlight. After supper I would take part in the brief activity, and then all the campers would come to the chapel in that same building. Several times I thought to myself that I ought to hurry back to the cabin and get my flashlight. I even told myself “It is going to be late and it’s going to be dark by the time I am finished here.” Then I reassured myself thinking, “Mike you’ve been here dozens of times. You know the way back to your cabin with your eyes closed!” So I didn’t go back for my flashlight. Well let me tell you that it surely was dark on the way back up the trail leading to my cabin! I actually stumbled several times. The phrase “He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness” vividly came to my mind. I am so thankful that I know and love the Lord Jesus. He is indeed not only the Light of the World; He is the Light of my life. Even when we go through confusing times, He is our Light, and we can follow His Word.
For today: Aren’t you glad that you know the Lord Jesus? Don’t you wish everybody did?
