I will never forget that moment.
Yep! I cried.
It would be the first Thanksgiving gathering in our home that was new to us. This took place several decades ago when we moved to Elyria, Ohio! The family arrived at staggered times depending on how early they could begin their journey and how far they had to come. Soon our new home would be bursting with the sounds of family arriving, greeting one another and enjoying being together.
Then it happened. One of my daughters said, “Oh it is so good to be home!” Immediately one of her young children said, “Why do you call this place ‘home’ if you never lived here with grandma and grandpa?” Her mom’s answer hit the target.
She replied, “Because this is where my mom and dad live. Wherever they are is home to me.”
Wow!
It made me think, “That’s just what Heaven will be, only perfect. Heaven will be Home because that is where my precious Savior is and that is where my Heavenly Father is. That’s what makes Heaven so special to me. Yes, of course, I can’t wait to see my loved ones and be reunited with them. I can’t wait to meet the saints of the ages and worship with them. I can’t wait to see the angels and the sights and sounds of Heaven.
But being wherever the Lord Jesus is and with our Heavenly Father is what makes it Home. Think of what the Lord Jesus said,
“In My Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2-3).
“So shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:17b-18).
So regardless of whether you are alone just now and it is very quiet or you might be surrounded by many faces, keep looking forward to your Home, where the Lord Jesus is!
