“Children’s children are the crown of old men” (Proverbs 17:6).
Herb sat down on the couch and continued laughing until he thought his sides were going to burst. “Those grandchildren of ours are such a blessing,” he said to his wife of forty-seven years. “They keep me young, Maggie,” he barely got out before Sally, Sue, and Samuel came rushing through the front door. “Come on, Grandpa, let’s shoot some hoops. We’ll take it easy on you!” Sam hollered as Grandpa slowly pulled himself up off the couch and headed out the door. Maggie watched from the window and silently whispered to the Lord, “Thank you so much for the gift of our grandchildren. They are such a blessing to us. I didn’t know how my dear husband was going to deal with his retirement. But the grandchildren you have given to us seem to be keeping him busy. Thank you, Lord.”
