Now Just What was I Doing?

Two older ladies were standing in line at the bank. Mabel said to the lady standing behind her, “Do you ever have trouble remembering what you were going to do?”
The lady smiled and replied, “All the time. Why, just this morning I decided to pour another cup of coffee. So on my way into the kitchen I spotted a letter that needed mailing. So I took it to the mailbox just outside my front door. As I was returning I noticed the newspaper lying on the coffee table. So I walked into the living room to put it away. Then I noticed my husband’s slippers in the hallway, so I took them to the bedroom. Sitting down on the bed I asked myself, ‘Now what was I doing?’ Just this minute as I am standing in line, I remembered the cup of coffee I never had this morning!”

I have no idea as to whether this conversation actually took place or not. It did make me smile. I have walked into our kitchen and wondered why I came! Probably you can identify with this. At one time or another, we all get distracted. We all forget things. We all have to laugh at ourselves. However, we must never get distracted from trusting the Lord.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee. Trust ye in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength” (Isaiah 26:3-4).

In every situation, seek the Lord. Focus on Him in His Word. Ask yourself, “What would the Lord Jesus do?” Keep your mind stayed upon Him.
