“And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him” (1 Kings 16:30).
The Lieutenant looked over at the Police Chaplain and said, “Chaplain Mike, there goes a bad egg. He is following in the steps of his father. We have booked his dad over and over. We’ve tried to help him. We’ve tried to get him into rehab, but he refuses to cooperate. Now his son is acting out just like his dad did. Sometimes I think he is worse than his father. It’s a shame.” The dad was familiar to the chaplain who had actually tried to help him on several occasions. “I probably know the son better than the dad,” Chaplain Kenward said. “He’s got a hard heart. The Lord Jesus can change that heart, I am sure. But so far, that young man is living wickedly, that’s for sure.” What a great lesson for us. How critically important it is to reach people with the life-changing gospel and to pray for the Holy Spirit to work in powerful ways.
For today: It is great to pray for people who are sick. But I wonder how much time we invest weeping and praying for unsaved people. (I am talking to myself first and foremost. But perhaps you have the same thought about yourself!)
