“Follow peace with all men, and holiness” (Hebrews 12:14).
The writer of Hebrews lays out such a beautifully balanced lifestyle for the believer. Peace and holiness are the beautiful graces that mark the life of the Christian lady in whose heart the Lord Jesus is working. On the other hand, peace and holiness are the marks of rugged strength in the life of a Godly man. They certainly are not the marks of weakness. Glenn stood in line at the bank along with several other people that were ahead of him. It gave him time to think back over the scenario of the dissatisfied customer with whom he was dealing. He knew that the customer had no basis for his complaint. Glenn’s company had performed the services exactly the way the customer had wanted. Now it was pretty obvious that the customer simply wanted to complain enough to enjoy the services rendered without paying. Waiting in line gave Glenn the opportunity to pray about how he would live out the verse he had read in his Bible reading that morning to “Follow peace with all men, and holiness.” He decided that it wouldn’t be holy to give in to the unreasonable customer’s accusations. But he wouldn’t allow himself to get angry and say something that would be regrettable. As he finally approached the counter, the bank representative apologized for the wait. Glenn responded, “You won’t believe how much I needed it. Thanks!” How will the balance of peace and holiness work out in your life today?
For today: Lord, You are the King of peace and righteousness (Hebrews 7:1-2). As your follower may I have these attributes as well.
