It just didn’t pass the test. Let me explain, but first think of this verse.

“Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:17).

“I am so confused, Pastor. I just don’t know what to do!” he told the pastor very early in the morning before he headed off to work. “I really appreciate you being willing to come in so early to meet with me. This is the biggest decision I’ve ever made, and I don’t want to make the wrong one,” Frank continued as he shared with his pastor.

“Well, let me tell you that I don’t mind coming in early. But quite honestly, Frank, I suspect that if you really think this through, you probably know what the Lord’s will is for you. For instance, let’s put it to the test. Have you held it up to see if it violates the Bible?” Instantly Frank said, “I know, Pastor, but it pays really good.” The young pastor replied, “Does it pass what the Word of God says? It will never be the Lord’s will if it violates the Scriptures or a Scriptural principle.” A battle was going on within the heart of this man who had just recently trusted Christ to be his Savior.

He knew that his present course of action was unbiblical and certainly not the will of the Lord. He settled it before the Lord in his pastor’s office that morning. Months later he would thank his pastor for confronting him. Say, my friend, how are you doing in understanding what the will of the Lord is for you?

For today: God has revealed His will for Godly living in His Word. One of the first tests is to see if it passes the “Word of God test.” We need to settle this in our hearts, don’t we?
