“Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You” (Jeremiah 32:17).
I’ve been reading through the Old Testament book of Jeremiah for my morning Bible quiet time. Again and again I’m struck with the trust and devotion demonstrated by the prophet Jeremiah. In the midst of the advancing Babylonian armies and sure judgment against Judah, Jeremiah trusted the Lord. He didn’t live in denial, pretending everything to be “just fine!” Rather, he understood the times, the peril, the wickedness all around him, and yet he balanced all this with a sheer sense of awe as to Who the Lord is, what the Lord has done, and what incredible wisdom and power is available in the Lord.
As wickedness grows and unthinkable situations develop around us today, we need to be honest in viewing our circumstances but never losing sight of just how great is our God. As I grow older, I find there is more and more that is hard for me to do physically. But oh, how wonderful to remember that within the will of the Lord, nothing is impossible. I might be weak. But He is so strong.
Here’s something for all of us to be thinking about: Throughout my day, I want to remind myself often, “Lord God…there is nothing too hard for You!” How will this play out in your life today?
