“For riches are not forever” (Proverbs 27:24).
The dying old rich man was arrogant with the young preacher who came to visit him. Oh, how the elderly man needed to know the Lord. The large mansion was impressive as it sprawled over the landscape which looked manicured. He was young in the ministry, but the preacher had such a heart for the Lord and for people. Hearing of the state of the man, he successfully made arrangements to call on him. Sitting beside his bed, the rich man was gruff with the preacher. “Don’t you know how much I am going to leave behind when I die, young man?” shouted the rich old man. “Yes sir, I do know how much you will leave behind. With all due respect, Sir, you shall leave behind every penny!” said the wise young preacher who drove the truth home in a quiet but effective way. You know, friend, I realize it is imperative for us to work hard, make a living, and manage wisely our funds. But it is more important to keep eternity in view. Invest wisely in eternal things!
For today: Thank the Lord for the funds He has entrusted to you. But don’t lose sight of the fact that you will leave behind every single cent. Keep eternity in view!
