“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed” (Lamentations 3:22).
Jeremiah was writing about the devastating results of the sin of the people of Judah. God had warned His people, but they refused to listen. Now the Babylonian army invasion would be swift and massive. Yet in the midst of the chastening of the Lord, there was still mercy. They didn’t fully receive what they deserved. Frankly, neither do we. I, for one, am very glad for mercy. If it wasn’t for mercy, where would I be? Have you been thankful today for the mercies of the Lord? How often do you suppose that you will be able to show mercy to someone else today? Showing mercy is not ignoring the seriousness of sin. It is the extension of kindness where it is not deserved.
For today: Is there anyone you know that needs some mercy?
