“He makes wars to cease unto the end of the earth; He breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; He burnest the chariot in the fire” (Psalm 46:9).
“I am so sick and tired of hearing of war reports,” Peter said with a deep, deep sigh. The rapid transit had rapidly picked up speed and was currently between East 122nd Street and Landley Street. The man sitting next to Peter put his paper down and asked, “I apologize. Were you speaking to me?” Pete looked up and said, “Oh, just half and half. I was kind of talking with you and kind of thinking out loud.” Roger, traveling home after a particularly stressful business meeting, folded his paper, and looking toward the man in the seat next to him, introduced himself and said, “Now what were you talking about?” Peter likewise introduced himself and remarked about being sick of wars. What a great conversation for the next fifteen minutes! Roger’s pastor had told his church family that sometimes unsaved people will make remarks that will open the door for a witness. Roger’s opportunity just came. What a conversation about knowing peace in our hearts right now as well as knowing that peace will come when the Lord Jesus rules on the earth. Several times Roger caught himself wishing that the engineer would slow down so he could talk more with his new friend.
For today: Won’t it be grand when the Lord Jesus rules on the earth? Aren’t you glad for the peace of the Lord that you have right now?
