“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
Backing the massive tower truck back into the parking space inside the station, the firefighter communications operator radioed “Tower Nine to Command. We are back in base.” After the response from command, “Ten-four. Well done crew” the last of the firefighters were safely back in the headquarters. It had been a terrible night of firefighting. A high wind, an old apartment building, three rescues and icy conditions all fought against the crews of Stations One, Three, and Four. Several of the men of Station four were believers. As the dirty, smoky, exhausted firemen walked from the trucks, Jim called to Luke, “Hey there brother, your eagle doesn’t look like it soaring!” They laughed and agreed that their bodies were exhausted; but amazingly their confidence in the Lord and their trust in His promises caused them to be a lot stronger than they looked at the moment. How about you? Are you soaring these days?
For today: There are circumstances that might break our hearts, cause us concern, or even bring about stress. However, God’s Word is true and our great God will help His child to renew his (or her) strength.
