“In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times” (Psalm 62:7,8a).
“If you never had a problem you wouldn’t know the joy of finding Him to be your refuge,” Lance said to his friend David. These men were having lunch at an outdoor table. David had been going through a time of great difficulty and personal hardships. Thankfully he was surrounded by a great network of men who loved the Lord. Most of the guys were very supportive and encouraging. As for Lance, well, friends, he truly meant well. He was a little different from the other men in David’s life. Lance was always very direct, spoke his mind, and was sometimes a little abrupt in how he phrased things. Lance continued, “If you think you have problems, think of the David in the Bible. Man, he had problems. But he said God was His refuge. God was just what he needed in every trial and crisis. It should be the same for you, David. Trust in Him always. He’s a great refuge.” While some might say that Lance could be just a little more gentle and compassionate, the wonderful truth of the matter is that Lance’s directness was just what David needed that day.
For today: How about you? Finding God to be our refuge does not take away from us needing others as well. If we’re sick, we need a doctor. If we have a legal issue, we need an attorney. On and on it goes. We need the help and expertise of many. But in every situation, we need the Lord. He is our refuge.
