“Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly. But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner” (Hebrews 13:18-19).

The writer of the book of Hebrews is beginning to close his letter, and one of the final things that he wishes to emphasize is their need of prayer. The writer declares that he is living in integrity and honesty. However, he is apart from them and praying to be restored. The idea of the word “restored” is that of bringing a person back to a former condition. We don’t know if the writer of Hebrews was imprisoned or hindered in some other way and being kept from being with them in person. In this day and age of being connected instantly through online devices, it is hard to imagine how difficult it was for the writer to be separated. He wanted them to pray. He also knew that he was living for the Lord regardless of the circumstances. He wanted to be with them once again, as soon as possible. This scenario is being played out around the world today. We surely need to be praying for each other.
