“Be patient, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain” (James 5:7). NKJV
“You can’t hurry those beans, Anna. They haven’t changed a bit overnight!” Shane hollered as he headed to his tractor. “Now, Shane McHanister. You just mind your business, and I’ll be checking on those beans about every morning!” They laughed together, and with a hug Shane was heading off to the fields. As Anna watched the tractor heading down the path to the lower south field, she glanced back at the beans and chuckled at herself. Then it struck her. She read it a week ago or so. Immediately she returned to her farmhouse, opened her Bible and started looking up the verse. After a few moments, she spoke right out, “There it is. Be patient until the coming of the Lord. That doesn’t mean that I sit around doing nothing. I need to be growing like those beans!” What a great reminder for that dear lady on her farm that morning. I can tell you right now. That is just what I need to remember today as well. Farmers need a lot of patience. So do I.
For today: If you are like me, I am so eager for the Lord to return. I need to stay focused and know that He is in charge.
